17 Elite enjoys some pizza after a long tournament day!
The boys of 17 Elite headed to the Midwest to collect their USA Division bid, making them the 4th SG team to earn a Junior National bid (a new club record).
After finishing in a 3-way-tie on the first day of competition, 17 Elite was able to beat Serve City, a team who they previously lost to, in an all-or-nothing match, allowing the SG boys to stay in bid contention.
“We started off a little shaky, but once the nerves settled we started to play our match. Really proud of the way we were able to take big swings when everything was on the line,” said coach Alex Markarian.
Another second place finish in their day 2 pool set the boys up for a bid match against Club One. Again, the boys of 17 Elite did not disappoint.
“I was so happy we won that match against Club One. With how hard our boys worked in the fall, they deserved to finish with an open bid. It really would’ve been a shame if it didn’t fall our way. But we served tough and stayed aggressive, which gave us the win and definitely made it a much better flight home,” said Markarian.
17 Elite would end up finishing 5th overall. They’ll join their high school teams over the winter before returning into spring to prepare for Junior Nationals in Dallas, TX.
